We are now taking new enrolments!
Welcome to our practice
Exciting news from our Waimauku practice!
In response to patient feedback, we’re trialling a new same-day acute clinic — designed to better support you and your whānau when acute health issues arise.
The trial clinic will be operating daily from Monday 5th May and is available by appointment only for sudden onset concerns such as respiratory issues and infections, high fever, pain management, suspected fractures or sprains, and new ACC cases.
The clinic will be staffed by our regular GPs and our new Nurse Practitioner, and we'll aim to see you within an hour of your booking.
To book an appointment for same-day acute care, please call us on 09 411 8094.
Please note:
- Standard appointment fees apply
- These are shorter appointments for one acute issue only
- This clinic is not suitable for long-term condition management, medication reviews, repeat prescriptions, or admin requests
- For serious health concerns, please visit your nearest A&E. If it's an emergency, call 111.
Thank you for your support as we trial this new service.
About Us
We are a well established family general medical practice in the Waimauku community with the same excellent team of dedicated GPs and practice nurses. It is our aim to provide quality individual and family health care, with a focus on the importance of a strong relationship between patient and healthcare provider. We are part of a family of practices including Waimauku and The Doctors Huapai medical centre in the next town. We are also proud to be Cornerstone and Foundation Accredited.
Consultations are by appointment only and we appreciate your understanding that as a rural practice, sometimes there are delays due to urgent medical need or emergencies. In addition to standard services we also offer driving medicals, family planning and pregnancy, sexual health, and pharmacy. The Waimauku Village Pharmacy, owned and operated by Robbie Hannon, employs a skilled group of pharmacists and technicians to give advice and dispense medication Monday to Friday.
We’d like to address the current challenges we are facing at The Doctors Waimauku & Huapai.
As with many other practices in New Zealand's primary health sector, recruitment is a challenge due to a nationwide GP shortage and the growing gap between government funding for primary care and the actual cost of delivering high-quality health services. Rest assured, we are working hard to recruit clinical staff to the practice. This time of year can put additional strain on healthcare services, with the flu season in full swing and Covid still present. Please know that we are actively working to find solutions that will help us offer more timely and urgent appointments.
The health and the wellbeing of our community is our top priority, and we deeply understand and empathise with any frustrations you may have experienced. We are committed to improving the situation and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
If you would like an appointment sooner than we can currently offer, we have a great team of experienced GPs available for phone and video consultations, via The Doctors Online. While these are casual appointments and are charged at casual rates, they can help with most medical issues that you might see your regular GP for. Appointments are usually available within 24 hours. Before you book, check our FAQs to make sure your health concerns are suitable for an online appointment - Book Here.
Thank you for your continued support and trust in our practice.
We are currently closed for new enrolments.
Unfortunately, we are unable to take on new patients, and do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Your healthcare is our highest priority, and we will reopen enrolments when we are able to. Thank you for understanding.
If you need to speak to a GP, we can offer you an online consultation, usually on the same day.
