The Doctors Huapai formed in 2016 when two local community practices combined - Huapai Family Medical Practice and Country Medical Practice. Huapai Family Medical Practice began with Dr Angela Tovey thirty years ago. Dr Angela Tovey was joined by her husband Dr Ross Tovey and between them they provided care for the residents of Huapai and far beyond until September 2016 when both doctors retired. Dr Wasfy Shahin relocated from his practice rooms in Kumeu Shopping Centre to 124 Matua Road in August 2016 and retired from full time GP practice in October 2016. We moved into our brand new premises at 321-323 Main Road, Huapai in December 2017. We currently have GPs Dr Mauri Smits, Dr Karen Liu, Dr Charles Sanders, Dr Malcolm Miller and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Sonya Curd.

December 2018 - Book your MoleMap now

Keeping safe in the sun is vital for all New Zealander's.  Click here for summer skin safety tips. To improve the rate of detection and treatment of skin cancers we also want to let you know that MoleMap skin check clinics are being held here at The Doctors Huapai on the 3rd Wednesday of every month - click here for more info.

Summer Skin Safety Tips

In New Zealand, it is essential to be sun smart during summer, especially between the hours of 10am-4pm when UV radiation levels are high.  Many overseas visitors and new residents get caught out by our intense UV levels and without protection their skin gets badly burnt, very quickly.  Skin cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand and The Cancer Society encourages all New Zealanders to slip, slop, slap and wrap. You need to cover up with hats, clothing, sunscreen and avoid being out in the sun for prolonged periods in the middle of the day.  It is important to detect skin cancer, as soon as possible because generally, early detection gives the best chance of successfully treating cancer.  To improve the rate of detection and treatment, MoleMap skin check clinics are held at The Doctors Huapai on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.

What is a MoleMap skin check?

During a MoleMap consultation you will have a thorough head-to-toe skin check by a MoleMap melanographer.  It involves identification and imaging of any moles showing features of skin cancer for expert diagnosis by a dermatologist.

It costs $199 (including GST) for a MoleMap skin check and this includes a GP follow up, if required. Please call 09 412 9133 to book an appointment.  If you have any concerns about changes to your skin, you should see your GP.
