Welcome to our practice 

The Doctors Onehunga are a family friendly, welcoming medical practice that provides you with General Practice health care as well as Urgent Care services for accidents, injuries and other unexpected illness. 

Our practice is fully endorsed against ACC Standards for Urgent Care centres and we have Cornerstone Accreditation through our commitment to meeting legal and safety standards and continuous quality improvement.  We are open seven days a week for accident and injury, and Monday to Friday for general practice consultations for our enrolled patients.

Covid-19 Tests & Results
If you have Covid-19 symptoms or are a household contact of a positive case please phone us to arrange your Covid test (Mon-Fri only). Most testing is now done via Rapid Antigen Testing (RATs) with results available within 30 mins. We are now accepting both casual and enrolled patients. We can only provide supervised RAT tests and cannot give out RAT tests to patients or companies despite some websites advising that we do. Charges for nurse appointment and RAT test may apply.  Please ask the reception or nurse.

Consults
Many consults are virtual (phone), with some in person. Phone 09 634 5184 to book and tell us if you have any Covid-19 symptoms. We will explain where we will see you. Do NOT come to front of the practice. Please wear a mask at all times. You will be expected to pay for all phone or in person covid consults prior to speaking or seeing the doctor.

Are you registered for the online portal?

When you’re enrolled with us you can register for this portal, called ConnectMed. Then, any time you like 24/7 you can:

  • book appointments
  • request repeat prescriptions with prior approval from your GP and when you've been seen within the last six months. Prescriptions are processed Monday to Friday and may take up 24 to 48 hours to process.
  • view lab test results

Registered Provider for Immigration New Zealand

As a registered panel provider for New Zealand Immigration Applicants we can assist with residence applications and also for applicants requiring temporary entry but intending to stay in NZ for more than 12 months.

We offer package fee charges and low wait times for these appointments.

  • Supports adults enrolled at the clinic
  • Helps you to manage ongoing health conditions e.g. gout, diabetes, asthma
  • Focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation, and stress management
  • Assists your understanding and use of your medications
  • Works with you to develop goals and action plans
  • Keeps in touch to support you - in-person, by phone or by text

HIP (Health Improvement Practitioner) – registered health professional

  • Supports patients of all ages enrolled at the clinic
  • Helps you to identify and prioritize wellbeing needs including stress, sleep, mood, anxiety, pain, physical health challenges, substance use, relationships
  • Works with you to develop a plan for positive changes 
  • Keeps in touch to support you in-person, by phone or by text

A typical consultation takes about 20-30 minutes. Your session can be face-to-face in the clinic or by video or phone.

Childhood Immunisations

Having your children immunised will help protect them from certain infectious diseases throughout their lives.  It is free to have your children immunised. All immigrant and non-resident children are also eligible for free immunisations and free Well Child Tamariki Ora services, regardless of their immigration and citizenship status. 

 The World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health recommend that you immunise your children. The immunisations begin when your child is six weeks old. A list of immunisations is available on the Ministry of Health website. To be fully protected, children need to have all the immunisations in the series.

Cervical Smear

Are you up to date with your cervical smears?  Cervical smear clinics are held two days during the week and sometimes on a Saturday. All of our nursing staff are trained and certified.  Phone us now on 09 634 5184  to book your smear.

Enrolled patients are not charged to have a smear or an HPV swab with a nurse. We believe no barriers should be present for our patients and the practice will pay for your swab or smear.

LARC - long acting reversible contraception (LARC) insertions, removals or replacements

E.g. Hormonal or copper Intra uterine devices or Implant rods.

You will need to make an appointment to have your IUD, or implant removed or replaced.  Discuss your contraceptive needs with an experience Chinese speaking nurse.

Urgent Care Hours

Open 7 days, Monday - Sunday 8am - 8pm (including public holidays)
For accidents, injuries, sudden illness and other urgent care services, no appointment needed just walk in. We welcome all our enrolled and casual patients and any visitors to the area.  Please note:  All fees must be paid prior to the consultation or a late payment fee of $10 will automatically be applied.

Drivers Licences $80 for enrolled patients and $100 for casual patients.  Please note: We do not provide Driver Licence certification after hours or in weekends.

GP Services Hours

Monday - Friday 8am – 4:30pm for booked GP appointments.

Non attendance at a booked appointment will incur a DNA fee of $10.

Standard Payment Terms and Conditions

The Cost of Health Care in New Zealand

Healthcare in New Zealand is a mixture of free and subsidised services, where patients pay a fee to cover some of the costs of providing healthcare services.

Free and subsidised care is only available to New Zealand residents, with exceptions in some cases for visitors from countries like the UK and Australia where New Zealand have reciprocal agreements. Ask our reception team if you think you may be entitled to a funded service for your visit or have any other questions on our fees.

Useful Information About Fees at The Doctors

  • Payment is due the day of consultation or service - prior to your appointment.
  • Repeat prescriptions must be paid for before the prescription is issued or sent to a pharmacy.
  • All fees are based on a single appointment, extended consultations may incur additional charges. Fees may vary due to the time taken and materials used.
  • Medical consumables will be charged separately.
  • Weekends, afterhours and public holidays will incur additional fees
  • Accounts may only be set up with the approval of the Medical Centre Manager.
  • Accounts that are unpaid will be sent to Debt Collection. The debtor (patient) is responsible for all debt collection fees.
  • Normal consultation charges apply to Virtual or Phone Consultations.
  • Newly enrolled patients may require a double appointment for their first visit. A double appointment fee will apply.
  • Four hours cancellation notice for a booked appointment is required. Non-attendance will incur a normal consultation fee.
  • Our practice nurses are skilled professionals and there is a fee when you see them for advice or services.
  • If you have a Community Services Card, you may be eligible for a reduced consultation or prescription fee.
  • If not paid in full an additional $10.00 fee will be charged for all age groups

Pay Online

Our practice will email or text your unique Medeor Pay by Link. It will give you access to view outstanding invoices on your account and flexible ways to pay. There may be a small transaction fee.

  • Dr Nurmeen Akhtar

    Dr Nurmeen Akhtar

    Available Monday to Friday and one Saturday a month

    After completing her medical degree in Pakistan, Nurmeen came to New Zealand in 2018. She has extensive experience having worked in several hospitals throughout New Zealand, including Auckland Hospital, Starship Hospital and Waitakere Hospital. Her experience also extends to regional New Zealand, where she developed valuable skills at Timaru Hospital. Dr Nrumeen hold a strong interest in acute medicine, along with all aspects of child and women's health. She is also passionate about preventive medicine and dedicated to promoting health, with a special focus on improving the health of Māori and Pacific communities.

    Outside of work she enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with her family and friends. 

  • Dr Sarah Ibrahim

    Dr Sarah Ibrahim

    Available Tuesday through Friday - part days

     

    After completing her medical degree at the University of Otago in 2012, Sarah then worked at Dunedin Hospital in various departments. She also spent some time in 2018 as a Paediatric Registrar in Dunedin. Sarah then moved to Auckland to pursue her training in General Practice. She is currently a member of The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and just joined the great team at The Doctors Onehunga in December 2019. Sarah enjoys all aspects of General Practice but has a special interest in Womens and Childrens Health, Preventative Medicine and Spiritual Health. She is married with four children.

  • Dr Adi Ajamain

    Dr Adi Ajamain

    Available Monday to Wednesday and Friday 

    Adi graduated from Otago University Medical School in 2019. Since then, he has immersed himself in diverse surgical and medical specialties around Auckland Regional Hospitals, most recently contributing as a registrar in General Medicine and Radiation Oncology.

    Adi finds fulfillment in all facets of general medical and surgical care.

    Beyond medicine, he cherishes moments with his young son, relishes family time, indulges in short runs, enjoys capturing moments through photography, and when time permits, delights in the occasional round of golf.

  • Dr Megan Griffiths

    Dr Megan Griffiths

    MBChB, MRCGP, DRCOG

    Available Tuesday to Thursday

    Megan graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2010, and moved to New Zealand in 2012 spending two years rotating around hospitals in Auckland. She then returned to the UK in 2014 to complete her GP training and also gained a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Missing the New Zealand life style she return to Auckland in 2018, joining the Team at The Doctors Onehunga.

    Megan has an interest in women’s health and paediatrics, but enjoys all aspects of general medicine and chronic disease management.

    She has two young children and enjoys spending family time outside at a beach or park.

  • Dr David Oxner

    Dr David Oxner

    MBchB, BSc, Dip Obs&Gyn, RNZCUC

    Available Monday to Friday and alternate Saturdays through the walk-in queue

    David was born in Auckland and was trained at Otago University after completing his medical degree, he completed both the general practice primary examination and Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.  

    He started working in general practice for seven years in Auckland and Christchurch.  He then returned to hospital practice in Christchurch and did a surgical registrar role for three years and then 6 years in emergency medicine.  He has also practiced in rural medicine in Balclutha which he enjoyed. 

    He returned to Auckland in 2013 where he took a position with The Doctors Onehunga and has recently completed his fellowship with the Urgent Care College.  He has special interests in sports medicine and minor surgery.

  • Dr Phillip McArthur

    Dr Phillip McArthur

    BHB, MBchB, Dip Obs

    Available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays

    Having trained through Auckland University in General Practice,  Phil has worked at the practice since doing a stint as a registrar in 1993, which means he has looked after three generations of some local families.  

    He is particularly interested in cardiovascular health and risk assessment, mens health and does immigration medical assessments.  He is available for corporate health assessments via his practice Medinex Health at Mercy Hospital specialist centre in Epsom.  

    In his spare time he is a keen squash player and runner, and enjoys playing guitar for relaxation.

  • Dr Tim Cummack

    Dr Tim Cummack

    MBchB, FRNZCGP

    Available Monday to Friday and alternate Saturdays

    After graduating from Otago Medical School in 1985, Tim worked at Christchurch hospital for a year and then moved north to work at Auckland Hospital.

    He has worked as a general practitioner since 1987.  Firstly in Epsom and then later in Onehunga where he continues to practice at The Doctors Onehunga, enjoying all aspects of General Practice.

    He completed his Fellow training for The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 1999. 

    Outside of work Tim is a father to two teenage girls.  He enjoys outdoor sports such as sea swimming and tennis and enjoys playing the piano.
