The Doctors Phoenix

Welcome to our practice

The Doctors Phoenix is a well established family general medical practice, in a centrally located purpose-built clinic, with modern and attractive facilities. We have seven general practitioners and a dedicated team of practice nurses, supported by a range of visiting specialists. Phoenix House and the surrounding area also have other medical services, including radiology, audiology, counselling, laboratory and a pharmacy, providing easy access to a range of investigations and treatments. We provide quality individual and family health care, with a focus on the importance of a strong relationship between patient and healthcare provider.

We’re providing our service in a new way to ensure you and your whanau remain safe. We're doing our part to support the COVID-19 response so when you phone us or visit the clinic we will ask if you have any cough, cold, or flu-like symptoms or if you're concerned about COVID-19 - let us know. This doesn't mean we think you have coronavirus, it's simply a small step we're taking to ensure we continue to keep our community safe and healthy.

Our practice is safe to visit

Safety is our priority. We are doing testing for COVID-19 and it's done in your car where possible or in an isolation room if an assessment is required.

This means when you visit us for other medical issues you won’t be exposed in any way. We have strict infection prevention standards in place, meaning staff are regularly wiping surfaces and keeping the practice clean and germ-free.

Thanks for your patience and continued support.

    Dr Matt Klaarenbeek

I am a Dutch GP. As a General Practitioner I enjoy the great diversity of patients and different medical cases. It is important for me to get to know my patients and build on that relationship for the years to come. I am an all-round doctor for the whole family, and have a special interest in skin disease and minor surgical procedures.

I arrived in Whakatane with my wife and two children and we live in beautiful Ohope. My wife, Cynthia, is also a GP. In previous years I have enjoyed working in the rural settings of Africa and in the city environment of Amsterdam. With our young family we wanted to experience the great outdoors of New Zealand and work in an environment with the chance to get acquainted with a new culture and a variety of patients.
