Extended Care Paramedics (ECPs) bring their emergency care expertise into medical centres, bridging the gap between pre-hospital and primary healthcare. This role has been growing in recent years and is an integral part of the clinical team.
ECPs work closely with GPs and the clinical team to ensure your healthcare is delivered appropriately and that you have access to it when you need it most. They are strong communicators, ensuring patients feel informed, reassured, and confident in their care.
What What is an extended care paramedic?
Exteded Care Paramedics (ECPs) are skilled paramedics who have transitioned into primary healthcare. They bring a wealth of experience managing urgent and ongoing health issues and delivering comprehensive, patient-focused care in collaboration with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
In addition to patient care, ECPs play a crucial role in the smooth running of the medical centre. They often maintain the centre’s emergency trolley, and are trained to handle urgent situations, providing reassurance and expertise to patients and staff alike.
What can an ECP do?
Extended Care Paramedics offer a wide range of healthcare services, including:
- Managing acute and chronic conditions: Supporting patients with sudden illnesses or ongoing health issues.
- ACC providers: Signing off ACC claims as accredited providers.
- Further testing: Working alongside the GP to arrange further investigations efficiently, such as lab tests and radiology referrals.
- Administering medications: Enhancing access to treatments for common health conditions by administering medications directly from pre-packed stock, reducing wait times as patients don’t have to wait for the prescriber.
- Conducting cardiovascular risk assessments: Identifying and managing risks for heart-related conditions.
- Performing minor procedures: Carrying out minor procedures and providing wound care to support patient recovery.
Why book with an extended care paramedic?
Extended Care Paramedics are experienced, frontline clinicians who bring their emergency expertise into local medical centres, helping to free up GP appointments for when you really need them.
They provide timely, expert care for a range of health concerns, reducing pressure on hospitals and ensuring you can access high-quality treatment close to home.
ECPs are a valuable addition to a medical centre. Having more clinicians to choose from means more available appointments, so you can be seen more quickly.
