The Doctors Bayfair

The Doctors Bayfair Medical Centre

Welcome to our practice

At The Doctors Bayfair, we work with you to make your future healthy and when health issues or accidents happen, we’re there to provide the care, advice and support you need. As your family doctor, we’ve designed our modern, well-equipped medical centre, located between Mt Maunganui and Papamoa. Our opening hours are for GP booked appointments and Acute Walk-in Care “no appointment necessary” services. Acute Walk-in Care is for enrolled or casual patients who experience sudden illness, accidents or injuries that do not appear to be life threatening but can’t wait until the next day.

Enrolling with us means you can visit either practice and access services 5 days a week Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm **We have appointments available outside normal business hours on request** avoiding high casual rates for weekend and after-hour consults. Our patients receive a premium, professional standard of care from our experienced team of general practitioners, nurses, and reception team.  Each of our GPs bring a commitment to quality family health care with specialist interests ranging from child, womens and mens health, sports medicine, minor surgery, specialist ACC work and occupational health. We run an array of nurses clinics including; diabetes, immunisation, biopsies, healthy lifestyle, care plus, asthma and flu clinics.

PLEASE NOTE Covid related appointments may incur a charge

We are a Registered Provider for Immigration New Zealand - for more info and how to apply for an Immigration Medical click here

Skin Checks

We offer Comprehensive skin checks by our accredited skin cancer doctor to both enrolled and  non-enrolled patients, at reasonable rates. Take the first step to end skin cancer and Book in today!

A skin check from top-to-toe can take from 15-30 minutes.

Make sure you tell the doctor of any spots or moles that are NEW, SORE, CHANGING or UNUSUAL.

Most people have made their moles by the time they are 40.  A new  mole after this age is more suspicious and the older you are the more suspicious a new mole is.

A dermatoscope will be used to check your lesions. This  specialist scope magnifies and enhances the lesions identified. Some lesions can be better felt than seen and some touching of the skin will be involved.

If required , a close up photograph of a spot or mole will be taken, by doing this a mole can be monitored over time for any changes in appearance.

Early skin changes can instantly be treated by freezing them (cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen)  (this will incur an additional charge)

To test a spot or a mole the doctor will either take a small biopsy (sample) or completely excise (cut out) the spot of concern.
After removal the lesion will be sent to the pathology lab for testing.  This will confirm the diagnosis and—in consultation with you—the best course of action with be discussed

Ask our reception team if you think you may be entitled to a funded service for your visit or have any other questions on our fees.

Julie enjoys learning and has continued her nursing studies and completed a Master of Nursing and more recently gained the authority to prescribe medicines for patients attending the nurse clinics.

The new RN designated prescriber role allows nurses who work in collaboration with GP’s and have successfully completed advanced education and certification to prescribe medicines from a specified list. The RN can assess, diagnose and treat common conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, skin infections, sexual health etc.

Julie is passionate about supporting people to gain confidence in management of their long-term conditions. She has completed advanced education in diabetes and associated health problems, and is able to provide specialised diabetes care to our growing population of people with diabetes.  Being able to prescribe medicines has made a difference for patients attending the nurse clinic and frees up the GP’s time to see more complicated patients.
