The Doctors Waipawa

Welcome to The Doctors Waipawa - we're open for you

We’re providing our service in a new way to ensure you and your whanau remain safe. If you are concerned about coronavirus, have a cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, fever or runny nose – let us know.

We proudly serve the rural township of Waipawa and surrounding areas with general practice medical services. The practice is computerised using MedTech 32 patient management system, and as a satellite clinic of The Doctors Hastings, we are fully supported by the Hastings Team. Our Doctors are supported by experienced Registered Nurses and Receptionists.

In addition to booked GP appointments we offer minor surgical procedures, blood tests and Registered Nurse specialty clinics are available. We are proud to be RNZCGP 'Cornerstone' quality accredited, which is the national quality mark for general practice.

Further services, including mental health services, visiting specialists, district nurse and investigations clinic are just seven kilometres away, in Waipukurau. The closest base hospital is Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital, 50 kms away in Hastings. This is a 400-bed accredited facility and regional centre for acute services. It provides medical, surgical, specialist assessment and rehabilitation services. Ambulance services can be at the practice within 10 minutes and it takes approximately another 40 to reach the hospital.

The Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced nursing skills and experience. Healthy lifestyle clinic

These clinics are run in a friendly, non-judgmental environment (one on one) from The Doctors Waipawa centre on Monday afternoons. Each appointment is 45 minutes in length.

The intention of this clinic is to assist clients with diabetes, cholesterol (healthy eating) and smoking cessation to become more aware of and better able to self-manage their health.

Whilst these clinic appointments are set up to see the patient as an individual, it has been beneficial and is encouraged to bring along a support person(s) especially family/whanau, as this allows the information to be disseminated to a wider audience but also allows a holistic focused approach.
In the clinic we provide:

  • Someone to listen to the patients concerns (medical or otherwise).
  • Resource materials such as handouts and websites.
  • Education about the patient’s condition; use of devices such as glucometer, inhalers etc, and self-management skills.
  • Cardiovascular risk assessments.
  • Referrals to other person(s) or agencies for assistance, testing, and ongoing care such as green prescription, move to improve, podiatry, retinal screening, dietician etc.

The clinic is available to all our enrolled patients. These clinics are funded for those who meet the criteria.

Hours
