Recently you may have noticed that we've changed our name from Christchurch South Health Centre to The Doctors Christchurch South and have a few new signs. We're proud of our changes, but rest assured everything else is still the same in our practice.

Our priority is the health and wellbeing of our patients. We’re providing our service in a new way to ensure you and your whanau remain safe. If you are concerned about coronavirus, have a cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, fever or runny nose – let us know.

We aim to provide our patients with first class general practice health care and service in accordance with the highest professional standards. Our service should be accessible, affordable and responsive to patients’ needs. Our health centre is easily accessible, including full facilities for the disabled with ample parking. We are Cornerstone Accredited by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

We pride ourselves on working as a team and for the past 35 years have provided all aspects of care throughout life. We encourage health, education and personal responsibility for health, emphasising prevention and early detection of disease. We provide a comprehensive range of general practice services.

Standard Hours

Monday to Friday 8:00am  –   5:00pm
Closed Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays

Please NOTE: 

  • To arrange an appointment or request a prescription please telephone between 8am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Outside these hours your call will be answered by a registered nurse, who may advise you to go to the 24-Hour Surgery.
  • Prescription requests will be cleared at the end of every day. Please allow 3 working days to obtain a repeat prescription. We will notify you when the prescription is read to pick up.
  • We have free parking onsite.

After Hours Service

24 hour service is provided through our membership with the 24 Hour Surgery, Cnr Bealey Ave and Colombo Street, phone 365-7777.

Dr Sanjeev Deo

I was born and raised in Christchurch and studied medicine at Otago University, graduating in 2010.  I started my GP training in 2016 after working in Blenheim, Nelson, and spending a short time overseas. It is great to be back home in Christchurch. Outside of medicine I enjoy photography, tramping, music, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

I grew up in Scotland and graduated in medicine from the University of Aberdeen. I completed my GP training and gained membership of the Royal College of GPs (MRCGP) in 1994. While working at Dunedin Hospital in 1997 I completed the University of Otago Diploma in Child Health (DCH).  Since 1998 I have worked in general practice in New Zealand, the UK and Australia. I joined the Christchurch South Health team in 2014.My medical interests include child health, minor surgery, ophthalmology and musculoskeletal medicine.I love to spend time in the great New Zealand outdoors: tramping,  mountaineering, mountain biking, kayaking and triathlons.I also enjoy playing the guitar and singing.

Dr Clive Hunter

I qualified in 1974 from Otago University. I was born and grew up in Dunedin. I have practiced medicine in USA, Australia and England. Dip Obstetrics, Auckland University 1978. I joined Christchurch South Health in 1979. Outside interests include fitness, sports (passionate skier), reading, pets, movies, music wine and food.

Dr Clare Botha-Reid

I was born in South Africa and I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1983. I emigrated to New Zealand in 1993 and joined the team at Christchurch South Health in 2000. I enjoy all aspects of my job, and have special interests in child and women’s health. My outside interests include yoga, running in the hills, gardening and cooking.

We warmly welcome new patients.  Being enrolled has many advantages:

•    We send you reminders and recalls for important health management
•    Pay less to see the doctor
•    Pay less for prescriptions (for subsidised medicines prescribed by your doctor)
•    Appointment bookings

Simply ask at reception or download our enrolment form below. Complete all the sections and send back to us by email, post, fax or bring it in with you.  You may need to bring in an original ID document (e.g. Drivers’ License, Birth Certificate, Passport) before your first visit - call our team to find out.

You do not need to be a patient with us to be seen by one of our medical team.If you’re a visitor to the region and need medical care, you’re also welcome. Please call our friendly team for an appointment.  All visitors and casual patients, please be aware that extra charges can apply when you are not enrolled.
