The Doctors Greenmeadows

The Doctors Greenmeadows is part of a cluster of healthcare facilities available at 524 Kennedy Road. We are a purpose-built medical centre, with access to Unichem Greenmeadows Pharmacy, Physio@The Doctors and TRG Imaging (Radiology).

We provide a full family general practice service. Facilities include three acute treatment bays for accident and medical treatment, consultation rooms for our general practitioners, a room for specialist nurse clinics and visiting consultants and in 2016 The Doctors Greenmeadows opened it's very own Specialist Suite, home to our functional medicine doctors, nutritionist and naturopath.  Please see under our list of services for more information.

We also offer ManageMyHealth (MMH) to our enrolled patients, which allows you to communicate with your medical centre from from any internet device to request repeat prescriptions, book appointments and view your personal health information at any time.

The Doctors Greenmeadows is a satellite clinic of The Doctors Napier and enrolled patients are invited to attend the Napier clinic at 30 Munroe St if you need care at weekends and public holidays, or after hours on weekdays.

Some exciting developments at The Doctors Greenmeadows

Here at The Doctors Greenmeadows we're always trying to improve how we deliver care and advice to you, your family and our community.

It's important that we make sure all our patients are seen at the right time by the right person, doctor or nurse. So, what's changing?

  • When you phone us to make an urgent appointment our healthcare team will assess your needs. We'll take your details and someone from your healthcare team will call you back to assess you.
  • If your medical issue is deemed urgent we'll book you in on the same day with an appointment.  If the issue is less urgent we will book you an appointment in advance to suit your schedule.  In many cases, we can even help you with care and advice over the phone.

We value your thoughts.  If you have any feedback about any of our recent changes, please feel free to get in touch with any of our team.

Are you OK? It's OK to ask for help

Suicide rates within New Zealand are increasing at a rapid rate.  It is a worldwide problem.

Hawkes Bay alone has devastatingly high suicide rates, with the East Coast having the highest rate in New Zealand.

Our whanau, our community, our nation need us!  Ask your loved ones the hard questions.  Don't assume "they'll be OK".

If you need help, asking for help is OK! Asking for help can be daunting, but asking is your first step to get the help you need.

Our team at The Doctors are always here to help.

How can I access help?

If you are feeling suicidal or have concerns that someone is suicidal, we treat this as a matter of urgency.  Call our clinic and ask to speak to a nurse or GP urgently.  You do not have to go into detail with our call centre/front desk staff, simply let them know your matter is urgent.

Alternatively, you can present into our Napier clinic, 30 Munroe Street and ask to be seen urgently, you will be seen as a priority.

I can't afford to see my doctor but I need help?

Never let the cost of a consultation stop you from accessing help.  We have access to different funding streams when cost is a barrier, in particular for mental health issues.  This may mean your visit can be partially or fully funded.  If we cannot access funding for you and it is a mental health or medical emergency, it is our policy to see you regardless of whether payment can be made or not.

Where else can I get help?

Jane joined The Doctors Napier Ltd in 1999 as a Practice Nurse.  At the time Jane was studying nutrition, so started out running an asthma and diet clinic, which over time, morphed into her "Wellness Clinic"

Jane see's people of all ages and stages to support them wherever they are in their health journeys.  She does this by working with nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, supplements, medications and works as "a cheerleader of your life choices and a guide as you make health decisions"

Outside of work "I am big reader and a perennial learner, I am currently trying to pick up French again, and lamely playing the piano.  So then I have to balance all that sitting with some gardening, walking and going to the gym and pretending I am much younger than I am.  Otherwise you will find me in the sun with a good chardonnay"

Dr Anthony Edwards

MB BS, Dip Obst, FRNZCGP Integrated Health GP

A GP since 1981 and at The Doctors Napier since 1989, Dr Edwards uses a combination of natural health and standard medical diagnostics and treatment. He specialises in management of long term health issues whether in children or adults. Focusing on prevention and aiming for long term good health. Appointments with Dr Edwards are necessary and there can be a wait for an initial appointment.

"In the late 1990s, 20 years after graduating as a doctor, I made a radical change. I applied Functional Medicine to my general practice. Functional Medicine focuses on the underlying causes of ill health rather than just naming a series of seemingly unconnected diseases and prescribing a series of drugs or operations for each disease.  Don’t get me wrong. Acute medicine is very accomplished at treating named diseases and we have specialists and hospitals who do this exceptionally well. I was trained as a doctor hence well trained in acute medicine. There have been astounding advances in acute medicine and surgery. Yet more and more people need more and more acute services as they get older. Why? Can this trend be changed?  As I moved from hospital practice to general practice, I started seeing the same people over an extended period of time. I noticed even with the best of care, chronic conditions progressed, albeit more slowly.

Is there evidence of health getting off track before a disease is found? Can those signs be picked up? Can the trend to ill health be reversed? Can a chronic disease state be reversed?  I aspire to avoid the ravages of ill health if I can, and speaking to the members of my medical practice over the years, they want the same. Thus began my quest for answers to these questions. I was surprised to discover there are many answers already out there, but more importantly there is a particular new way of thinking that asks what is really going on? More answers (and more questions) emerge each day, week, year.  I have applied this way of thinking, (Functional medicine) to my practice and my life (as best I can!) since the last years of the 20th century".
