The Doctors Bureta

The Doctors Bureta is a family based general practice and is located at the top of Bureta Road in the Otumoetai/Brookfield area of Tauranga. Our doctors proudly provide a wide range of services to over 4,700 enrolled patients.

We are excited to be able to offer you an online portal called Manage My Health (MMH) that allows you to:

  • Request repeat scripts 
  • Books appointments with Doctors and Nurses
  • Access test results

Our Services

Hours and fees

We are open 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. After hours, please call our number 07 576 7912 and you will be diverted to a nurse for medical advice.

Standard appointments are set at 10-15 minutes and are the basis for our fees.

When phoning for appointments please indicate:

  • Urgency
  • If more than one person is attending
  • Change of address or contact numbers
  • If you require a drivers licence medical
  • If you require an extended appointment that exceeds the standard time please make sure you specify this at time of booking.

Repeat Prescriptions

  • Please allow 24-48 hours for repeat prescription requests. You will be required to see your doctor every 3-6 months if requiring repeat medications.
  • Repeat Prescriptions fee $22

Laboratory & X-Ray results

  • Any significant abnormal results you will be notified by a nurse. Please phone nurse line for confirmation of normal results, of if you have any further questions.

Waiting time and delays

  • We make every effort to run our appointments on time. Unexpected emergencies occur and some consultations will run over time, please bear with us if your appointment is delayed.

Effective July 2018. 

  • All materials used will be charged in addition to the consultation fee
  • Fees are GST inclusive and may be subject to change

Dr Maxine Betham

MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), Bachelor Human Biology, Bachelor Nursing

Dr Maxine Beetham is originally from Tauranga, moving to Auckland to study medicine and then undertaking work as a doctor at Rotorua Hospital, Waikato Hospital in ICU, and back to her home town to work at Tauranga Hospital. Maxine has a special interest in maternity, paediatric and palliative care medicine.

Dr Ngaire Ellis

FRNZCGP, MBChB, Dip Child Health, Dip Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Dr Ngaire Ellis graduated from Otago University medical school in 1987. Since then Ngaire has worked in general practice, for 25 years, in both New Zealand and Australia, including 3 years as a clinical manager for a spine surgeon. Ngaire has a special interest in women's health, children's health, and asthma management.

Nurse Karen

RGN, NDN, CPT, Advanced diabetes paper

Karen has experience as a practice nurse, district nurse, clinical placement teacher and in orthopaedics. Her special interest lies in diabetes, women's health, education and assessment.

Dr Robert Nicholas

MBCHB, Diploma Obstetrics, FRNZCGP

Robert graduated from University of Otago in 1979 and has been in General Practice since 1986.  Robert is very experienced in all facets of General Practice. Robert is married with 3 adult children.

Dr Gareth Blackshaw

BA, MBChB, Dib Obs, Dip Practical Dermatology, Dip Dermoscopy, FRNZCGP

Gareth trained in Wellington and has worked overseas before moving to the Bay of Plenty in 1997 with his wife Jane and 3 daughters. Special interest areas include family medicine, care of the elderly, skin conditions and surgery.Gareth has been involved in medical education, training registrars and colleagues, and helped establish the BOP Clinical School. 

He has completed many multisport events, enjoys most outdoor activities, and spends his remaining time on the orchard and carrying musical equipment around for his daughters gigs.

•    Pay less to see the doctor
•    Pay less for prescriptions (for subsidised medicines prescribed by your doctor)

Simply ask at reception or download our enrolment form below. Complete all the sections and send back to us by email, post, fax or bring it in with you.  You may need to bring in an original ID document (e.g. Drivers’ License, Birth Certificate, Passport) before your first visit - call our team to find out.

You do not need to be a patient with us to be seen by one of our medical team.If you’re a visitor to the region and need medical care, you’re also welcome. Please call our friendly team for an appointment.  All visitors and casual patients, please be aware that extra charges can apply when you are not enrolled.
